TREK - Danxia Mountains, China, 5D4N | #ReachForTheRainbow | 16-21 May 2018

Zhangye's Danxia landscape is located in Gansu Province, in the northern West zone of the country, near Zhangye City. The formations of the red sandstone are known for being very dramatic and colorful. Most of them are several hundred meters high, and the multicolored ridges of weathered strata sometimes stretch to the horizon. These formations, sometimes smooth sometimes sharp, stand out against the greens or grays of the plains, looking grand and magnificent, vigorous and virile.

Danxia refers to isolated peaks, steep pillars, ravines, mountains and hills that have formed after a long period of erosion by wind and running water. Several Danxia Landforms are listed by UNESCO as World Heritage Sites.
