Hazleen Panayiotou, ATC Founder and Club President, shared our achievements and challenges of 2019. Special highlights were, various charity treks including one with over 50 people, corporate members treks, our biggest International Women's Day participation, Junior Trek Leaders in Training and our most popular treks were the ones in which Mothers, Sisters, Youths & Kids climbed mountains with explosive positive energy! 2019 proved to be a tough one too as it was not without obstacles - extreme weather and natural disasters stood out as the biggest threat for us. Hazleen applauded our members for persevering and playing a big part in promoting this global movement of exploration, adventures, mountains and sisterhood. #ATCMOUNTAINNATION was officially unveiled. In 2020, we must remember that:
Our Lives Have Purpose
Our Stories Are Important
Our Dreams Count
Our Voices Matter
We are Born To Make Impact
So lets climb mountains that are challenging and rewarding. Let's Take The Stage and Shine Bright and Strong Like a Diamond.
ATC will remain a members-only trekking club for women and will continue to work with the Sustainable Development Goals in mind to transform our World. Be it to support the creation of sustainable communities, reducing poverty, spreading the importance of gender equality, practising responsible consumption, we will make these the center of our decisions when organising treks. Please remember to renew your membership, come join us as a member and introduce a friend. Spread the love of nature and the need to touch more lives. You will receive a special thank you gift from us if you do this by 30 January 2020. Members who were not able to attend our annual event, please contact Becca to claim your ATC recycle canvas tote.
We are very excited to share our theme for 2020 > 2021. And we are proud to introduce:
We must all have a theme, a goal and a purpose in life.
Let us help you discover yours!
Over the years we have developed a road map to guide and support you so you can conquer your dream mountain! Our meticulously planned treks, carefully considered training programmes, detailed information documents, meetings and workshops will help you identify areas of weakness and with various experts in our trekking related network you will make your dream mountain a reality!
So what is Peaks for Purpose 2020>2021? Our presenters highlighted in many different ways how mountains have helped them change their lives and of others. We all agreed wholeheartedly that aligning our work and our personal activities with our deepest values will relieve us from the burden of constantly expecting to achieve joy and pleasures. Having a clear purpose will help us to hold on to our goals even in the face of adversity. Furthermore, a well-rooted sense of purpose gives us way more grit than passion alone and that is what makes one successful over the long haul. This is the essential element required when we need to fight to overcome challenges and complete what we set to achieve. As a community we will continue to find out what our purpose for climbing mountains are, we will listen to our own truth and we must not be afraid or too shy to share our achievements and our stories.
DJ Reyes, a Purpose and Possibilities Coach and Facilitator shared her knowledge on why we need a purpose in life, how the mountain teaches us all to be a great leader and that a coherent mind, heart and body can help us shift beliefs and mindsets. DJ then challenged us to think of what we want our story to be for 2020!
Our Super Star Trekker of the Year, Asmita Ranade, spoke about her Journey of Discovery. Asmita always enjoyed trekking, but had stopped whilst her kids were young and work took over. ATC and Jade Mountain reminded her of her true passion for peaks. It was fascinating to hear her story and how she made the decision to return to the mountains which have since played a big part in her life once again.
Paul Khor from Fjallraven shared stories and experiences of the Fjällräven Classic, Fjällräven Discovery and Polar adventures. Paul and Rina Martinez (ATC Trek Leader) also launched our exciting plans for 'Beyond Mountains' an ATC and Fjällräven joint venture to Mt Hamiguitan, Philippines in March and Mt Bromo, East Java in July.
Beautiful People is ATC's charity of choice for the first quarter of 2020. Kanitha Jagatheson spoke about the amazing work they do to support young people, through mentorship. Our first project is to sponsor and mentor a Beautiful People mentee Stephanie Teo, for her first trek. We look forward to training Stephanie and preparing her this challenge to raise money for Beautiful People. We will also be organising a walk for International Women's Day with Beautiful People (save the date 7 March 2020). Help us achieve our target so that we can continue the good work of Beautiful People. Because Dreams Matter! https://www.giving.sg/organisation/amazingtrekkersBecca Taylor, ATC Programme Director presented ATC 2020 treks and outlined the benefits of committing to different levels of mountain difficulties to break the boundaries and stretch your limits for higher and richer experiences. For example, our local treks aim to help our members build confidence, personal preparation, understanding what food gives you power (and what does not), whether your equipment is comfortable and workable.
Hazleen will be continuing her Professional Development in 2020 after successfully completing various courses in 2019 and 2018 including Women In Leadership Programmes with Cornell University and INSEAD. Hazleen has been selected to take part in an annual women's retreat with Dear Alyne in March 2020. Alyne did a special recording from Vietnam for us Amazing Trekkers. If you missed it, here you go!
ATC badges are legendary and rewarded to those trekkers who complete a trek! It promises to be another year of adventure, seeking Peaks for Purpose. The perfect year for those determined to reach new goals, aspirations, and even new hobbies. Try collecting one of each of our badges.
And for each peak you reach you will earn a chevron!
The chevron insignia is new for 2020 and can be worn on your sleeve or bag indicating the number of treks you have done in the year. Yes it is an inverted V rank stripes which to us represent PEAKS and PROTECTION. This ancient symbol was well regarded as the wearers were perceived as warriors having heroic qualities. How about that! We also love the symbolism of creating our own reality or path because where there is a will, there is definitely a way. We pledge to be the one to light a fire and the guide to lead the way out of difficulties or even darkness. So new recruits, from a Private/Lance Corporal - local treks, you will move up to a corporal for regional treks before being promoted to sergeants with big mountains and international treks - LOL! Our Star Trekkers will also receive special badges this year.
Look no further to fulfill those aspirations and resolutions! ATC have over 25 treks planned for next year. Check out our full list of treks (exclusively for ATC members only) on our website now.
Register your interest to be a member to join our treks or to start training with ATC at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Wishing all our Amazing Trekkers, followers and supporters a successful decade in 2020s and an incredible New Year. Enjoy this special celebration with family and friends.
We look forward to seeing you in 2020.
