Finally, what we have been up to this last month...
Firstly we must say a HUGE thank you to all our sponsors, partners, speakers, members and guests for supporting ATC this year, specially on the 3rd November at our 3Ps Challenge Information Evening. We are thrilled at the turnout on the evening. We expected 25 but got 65. That's awesome to know so many ladies are into trekking and adventure travels. There is never enough time to chat with everyone so hopefully you will come join us for a hike or training session and we can chat about your trekking goals. We received so many thank you emails and suggestions for our next event so will arrange another event soon - watch this space.
We enjoyed a large gathering of ATC members and friends for our November Pulau Ubin community trek on Sunday, 6th November. We hiked a total of 12km from Puaka Hill to Chek Jawa Wetlands. Our members shared great conversations, exchanged holiday stories and talked about their next trek challenge. Of course we also got to enjoy the abundance supply of flora and fauna from mother nature, had fresh coconut water, rested at a proper kampung house, tried out Nirvana breathing techniques, ate traditional Malay food of Nasi goreng, chicken and sambal & made our own ice kacang dessert. Our team even demonstrated traditional games played in yesteryears and got volunteers to try out Malay dance steps. What a fun and fulfilling day. Thank you to those who joined us that day. You made it special and memorable.
Congratulations to our October Star Trekker Siti Hirt. Siti is our glamorous member, a talented entrepreneur, wife and mother of 2 who began trekking in 2014 to Mount Kinabalu with ATC fellow trekkers Sue Hoet and our Club Vice President Shah Ahern. She then travelled to Bhutan with a group of friends and since then Siti has not hung up her hiking boots and got totally connected to them. She continued her trek journey to Mount Agung, Nepal, Mount Bromo and Mount Batur. Siti is originally from Indonesia and has lived in Switzerland, Hong Kong, Indonesia and now calls Singapore home with her Swiss husband and 2 active and sporty daughters, Carissa 12 and Carina 9. They are fully supportive of her trekking goals and even trek regularly with her in Singapore, Switzerland and Indonesia. Well done Siti. We are honoured to have you in our Club! Look forward to Mount Rinjani, Mount Ophir and Everest Base Camp expeditions next year! Well done for selecting your 3 peaks for 2017.

Very proud to welcome back 4 ATC members from Kilimanjaro. Angela Mullany, Nicky Elms, Tiana Kerridge and our founder Hazleen Panayiotou all stood on one of the world's greatest natural wonders - a snow covered mountain on the equator, an ocean of green forest and alpine dessert. They climbed Kilimanjaro in 7 days and it felt like walking from the equator to the North Pole with dramatic changes day by day. An extraordinary experience to be on Uhuru Peak, the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro as it rises from the plains of Tanzania as the highest freestanding mountain in the world and the highest mountain in Africa at 5,895 metres. We are going again in September 2017, email us if you are interested.
Congratulations to ATC member, Jules Jul and her group for making it to the summit of Mount Kinabalu at the end of October. Despite the rain and the physical, mental and emotional challenges you faced, your fierce fighting spirit, diligence, and determination earn our greatest respect and admiration. You are a role model to your students and followers. We love your enthusiasm, kindness and positive energy.
Awesome work from Jenny Loo, who started trekking in May 2016 and has just come back from summiting 雪山主峰 (Snow Mountain). At 3,886m it is the 2nd highest mountain in Taiwan and her highest to date. They walked 21.8km in rainy, gusty weather. "It was cold especially for a gal who never experience such intense weather. My fingers and toes were numb, at times I couldn't feel my trekking poles. I'm blessed with supportive fellow trekkers that helped me along."
On Wednesday 2nd November we had a special morning at MacRitchie with experienced mountaineer, adventurer, author and motivational speaker Khoo Swee Chiow. Swee Chiow first climbed Mt Everest in 1998. In 1999, he skied to the South Pole, covering a distance of 1,125km in 57 days. In 2000, he completed the Seven Summits and became the 1st South East Asian to achieve this feat. In 2001, he climbed Shishapangma (8027 meters) in Tibet without oxygen aid. He recently conquered Mt. Manaslu in Nepal, the eighth highest mountain in the world at 8,163 metres. We had fun exchanging mountain stories and discussing what our next challenge should be. Thank you for inspiring us Swee Chiow!

I signed up knowing well, how taxing a volcano summit push is. Climbing mountains is an addiction and I remain undeterred but always cautious trying to understand and study what it is going to take to climb it.
