Welcome back to Amazing Trekkers Club, ATC Trek Training and trips planned for 2017. We hope you have enjoyed quality time with loved ones over the school break and festive holidays but ready for some more amazing experiences, mindful pleasures and self indulgences in nature.
We have kick started the year with a fantastic local trek to Gunung Lambak in Johor, Malaysia and Community Walk around the hidden gem, Coney Island. We will hold many more local treks this year, so you won't miss out! Our next Mount Lambak group of 18 ladies are all set for departure in February. Not forgetting our 2 groups of trekkers training hard to reach the summit of Mount Ophir.
We have had an active January trek training sessions, with endurance, strength, cardio and high intensity workouts and sweat sessions. Our members are meeting on a regular basis to get ready for Mount Lambak (18 pax), Ophir in February (12 pax) and Mount Kinabalu (12 pax) in March. A busy month of May awaits as a group of 10 ladies will be climbing Mount Rinjani. We are currently forming a group of trekkers game enough to conquer 2 Peaks in 2 days starting with Hong Kong's Lantau & Dragon's Back and Bali's Agung and Batur. Borobudur and Merapi Central Java trip will be in October and we are taking bookings for this Mind|Body|Soul outdoor adventure. We have had several meetings with a group of friends who wish to follow our members footsteps to trek Kilimanjaro Lemosho route. These ladies have been inspired and spurred to reach the roof of Africa. Lastly, it may only be January but 12 of our members are working out their schedule in November to re-organise their lives around their Everest Base Camp trip.
Find out what our community have been up to this month and what is coming up, read about these in our last section - Members, Partners and Experts.
Lastly, as we look to welcome in the Chinese Lunar New Year of the Fire Rooster, let's focus on our earthly side which hopes to bring fresh challenges requiring quick wit and practical solutions! Sounds ideal for trekking!
"I am alert Ready to take action The first on the scene The last to leave I take chances But I am precise I know where things belong I am orderly and fastidious Nothing escapes me I am always prepared I never give up or in I AM THE ROOSTER"
Congratulations to our December Star Trekker, Marcela Cochrane. She has participated in our local and overseas treks, trained hard, guided our newbies on new trails and even welcomed us to her beautiful house after trek training with homemade pies and herbal tea. Her energy, openness and drive makes her our special Ms. Swiss trekker. Marcela was born on the foot of the Andes, in Mendoza, Argentina and lived in Zurich and Brigels, Switzerland for 27 years before she moved to Singapore in 2014. Marcela has walked and hiked for many years now and has covered different paths across the Andes and the Alps, the most significant ones being Mt El Pleado (3.445m, Mendoza), the Gotthard pass (2.091m), Machu Picchu (2430m) and Kistenpass (2.503m). In 2015 taking advantage of a work (and family) sabbatical, she decided to do part of the Way of St. James (St. Jacob's path) in Spain, starting at Roncesvalles and walking up to Villavante, covering a distance of 527km in three weeks. She is a mother of three teenage boys, who have accompanied her and her husband in multiple mountain hikes since they were babies, the most recent one of which was crossing the Alps over the Greina Plateau (over the Diesrut pass 2.428m) on a three day mountain tour last summer. Marcela joined ATC in September 2016 and was delighted to be part of our Mind|Body|Soul Himalayan yoga and trek expedition from Chisapani to Nagarkot in Nepal. She is now looking forward to many hikes in 2017. She will spend the summer 2017 in the Alps and is considering joining our Mount Rinjani and Everest Base Camp treks. Her motto is Antonio Machado's famous words:
“Walker, there is no path, you trace the path as you walk”.

What an amazing way to start the year, with sixteen enthusiastic hikers reaching the 2 peaks of Gunung Lambak with such speed, determination and good humour! Our first group made it to the first summit in 45 mins! We enjoyed each other's company, told stories, demolished a delicious breakfast enroute, devoured a local lunch after the hike, had cold refreshing towels to freshen up and even coffee on the way home. We will be going again in February and have other treks to Malaysia during the year. Have a look at our Treks page and sign up! All the pictures can be seen on our FLICKR Album.
Old and new friends came together for another fun and explorative nature hike on Sunday, this time on Coney Island. We walked just over 8km and shared stories and dreams of trekking Borobudur together in October! See you at our next Community Activity Morning - hiking and kayaking from Punggol Point. Watch this space...In collaboration with Sonia Osborne and Eat Train Love, we are developing a quarterly motivation guide exclusively for our Expedition and Summit members. Some time next week we will be sending to you questionnaires to get to know what your needs, challenges and struggles are and what's preventing you from setting a goal.
There is no excuse for you not to challenge yourself to set a new goal and to dream a new dream.
On Wednesday we finally had sun again so we opted to try a different route.. Our hardworking member Mary Trinh suggested that we explore the Southern Ridges. We listened and we explored together. We started from Mount Faber - Hort Park - Labrador Park and finished at Kent Ridge Park. In under 2 hours we walked nearly 10km and over 13000 steps. If this sounds like something you want to try, email us on email@example.com.
ATC highly recommend this bootcamp for general fitness and especially if you are in training for a summit. Lucy is our Trek Leader for our Jade Mountain trip 20th - 23rd May where 7 ladies are signed up and permits received.

The perfect location to prepare our team heading to Everest Base Camp Expedition. A beautiful location with a rich history and huge potential but unfortunately underutilised, underdeveloped and somewhat neglected. We look forward to going back for sure.
